A worn drive belt can stop the cooling fan, water pump or alternator, and that can quickly lead to overheating or a flat battery. Belts from different engine models often look alike but differ in length and width. This guide shows how to identify your engine and lists the Kubota, John Deere and Perkins belts and John Deere pulleys we stock, matched by engine model.
Signs a belt needs replacing
Look for cracks, fraying, glazed or shiny sides, missing pieces, or oil on the belt. A squealing noise at start-up, a battery that does not charge, or a rising temperature reading can also point to a slipping or worn belt. Replace belts as recommended in your engine manual, and replace a belt in pairs if the engine uses two.
Step 1: Find your exact engine model
The engine model is printed on the engine nameplate or tag, usually on the cylinder block. Do not order by series alone (for example “6068” or “1006”): different models in the same series can use different belts. Match the full model with the “Engine Compatibility” shown on each product page. If you have the old belt, its part number or the “Replaces part no.” column below is the quickest cross-check.
Step 2: Match the belt to your engine

Don’t see your engine? Send us the model and we will check for you (see Step 4).
Step 3: Fit and tension correctly
Switch the engine off and make sure it cannot start. Check the pulleys for wear, wobble and damage before fitting the new belt, because a worn pulley will quickly wear out a new belt. Fit the belt without forcing it over the pulley edge, then set the tension as given in your engine manual. Run the engine briefly and re-check the tension after the first hours of operation.
Step 4: Not sure? We will confirm before you order
Send a photo of your engine nameplate, or the engine model and the old belt’s part number, and our team will confirm the right part.
